When I was a kid, my mom had a cookbook on the kitchen shelf called something like, How to Cook Anything in the Microwave Oven. Flipping through the pages revealed sepia-toned, 1980s photos of sad roast chicken, sadder chocolate cake, the saddest “grilled cheese” sandwiches and other things that, yes, could be cooked in a microwave.
