We’re giving away five journals to industry professionals who are members of Plate. Speer, who is a board member for the Austin chapter of Ben’s Friends and founder of the Comedor Run Club, created the custom journal with the restaurant professional in mind. In it are daily checklists with reminders to do simple but important things like getting 15 minutes of daylight, speaking to your team with kindness, and staying hydrated, along with space to jot down recipe ideas, sketches, and gratitude notes. Speer talked about the impetus to create the journal on a mental health panel at this year’s Mise conference and why he thinks it resonates so well with chefs (watch it here). “Using this has really set the tone for the day where I am checking off the things on my prep list that I need to get done including going outside, eating and drinking water, we often forgot to take care of ourselves,” he says.
