February 25, 2019 is National Clam Chowder Day
We invite you to celebrate Clam Chowder with us on February 25, 2019. While most of us think of the creamy traditional New England Clam Chowder, over the years many verities have come to menus across the country. Chowders have evolved regionally; there is Manhattan Clam Chowder, a thinner tomato-based version, Rhode Island, has a clear broth and bacon. New Jersey has a version, which is tomato based and seasoned with old bay. The Carolina’s have a Hatteras Clam Chowder, with celery, carrots, potatoes and onions cooked in clam juice. Florida has a Minorcan Clam Chowder, which is also tomato based but has datil peppers, for some heat. San Francisco and Seattle like the typically New England Clam Chowder but to serve it in a bread bowl. While we all have different chowders we prefer, there is one common ingredients, CLAMS! Our clams are sustainably harvested domestic sea or ocean clams. For more information on sustainability click here.
To commemorate this day Sea Watch International will be providing thousands of bowls of Clam Chowder to shelters and food pantries across the country, from Boston, Washington DC, New York to San Francisco and Seattle. Whether you are a fan of New England style, Manhattan style, Clear Broth or West Coast Clam Chowder, share a cup or a bowl with someone and warm his or her hearts.
Monday, February 25th, 2019 will be your favorite day.
